4 Sports Injury Recovery Physiotherapy Treatments at Hermina Pasteur
Sports injuries are pain caused by sports, which can cause disabilities, wounds, and damage to muscles or joints and other parts of the body. According to Andun Sudijandoko (2000: 31), injuries can be characterized by pain, swelling, cramps, bruising, stiffness, and restriction of joint movement and reduced strength in the injured area. Not only athletes can experience injuries, but anyone can experience injuries. Injuries occur a lot when someone does sports activities; injuries are a scary thing for athletes because an athlete's career can end due to injury.
A. Types of Injuries
1. Sprains
The form of injury is stretching or tearing of ligaments (tissue that connects bones to bones) or joint capsules, which provide joint stability. Severe damage to the ligaments or joint capsule can cause joint instability; symptoms can include pain, inflammation,
2. Strains
The form of injury is stretching or tearing of the musculo-tendinous structures (muscles and tendons). This type of injury occurs due to the muscle being pulled in the wrong direction, excessive muscle contraction, or when the contraction occurs, the muscle is not ready.
3. Fracture
Injuries like this are experienced when athletes or individuals experience collisions with other athletes or individuals or can also collide with something hard, resulting in cracks or fractures. Injuries experienced can gradually recover with appropriate treatment by the collaboration of a medical team (orthopedic specialist doctor, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist doctor, neurologist specialist doctor, and general practitioner to treat pain in the post-injury/acute phase) and physiotherapist to stage injury recovery. what someone who is injured should do.
B. Recovering from Injuries with Physiotherapy and Functional Exercise
1. Cold Therapy Using cold to treat pain. Cold therapy can be used in several ways, such as using ice and cold baths. This therapy is used when the inflammatory response is still very real (acute injury). Some conditions that can be treated with cold therapy include injuries (sprains, strains, and contusions), knee pain, and joint pain.
2. Ultrasound Therapy Ultrasound therapy is a type of thermotherapy (heat therapy) that can reduce acute and chronic pain. Therapeutic ultrasound also has anti-inflammatory effects that can reduce joint pain and stiffness. This therapy can be used to correct nerve root impingement and several types of neuritis (inflammation of the nerves) and is also useful for post-injury healing.
3. Electrotherapy Electrotherapy is a therapy that uses electrical impulses to stimulate motor nerves or to block sensory nerves. One type of electrotherapy that is often used for treatment is transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). 4. Functional Exercise Therapy This form of physical activity can also restore muscle strength, joint flexibility, balance, and body coordination, all of which are important for keeping individuals with sports injuries recovering. Hermina Pasteur Hospital developed a sport and body performance clinic, which aims to restore functional abilities
Examples of functional exercises for knee injuries include:
- Wall Slides
- Calf Stretch
- Wall Squats With A Ball
- Quadriceps Stretch
- Side-Lying Leg Lift
- Step Up
- Clam Exercise
- Straight Leg Raise
If injuries are not treated quickly and correctly, they can result in physical disorders or limitations, both in carrying out daily life activities and in carrying out the sports activities in question. By undergoing a regular post-injury medical treatment and recovery and physiotherapy program at the Sport and Body Performance clinic at Hermina Pasteur Hospital, the injury suffered will not only recover but the individual will be able to carry out activities to the maximum.
