HOW TO MANAGE STRESS

HOW TO MANAGE STRESS

Stress (Lazarus & Folkman, 1976) is a specific relationship between an individual and the environment that is assessed by the individual as demanding or exceeding his resources and endangering his existence. That means stress occurs if someone experiences demands that exceed the resources he has to adjust himself; so that a new stressful condition occurs if there is a gap or imbalance between the demands and the individual's abilities.

Demands are something that if not met will have unpleasant consequences for the individual. The level of stress experienced by an individual will differ from other individuals. The level of stress faced by each person depends on the cognitive assessment process (the results of the evaluation and interpretation of the stressor that occurs) owned by the individual.

So that we do not experience stress, we need to do activities that can prevent us from stress. Although as humans it is very natural to experience stress, it is highly recommended to keep trying not to experience stress often. The following activities can prevent us from stress, including:

Always think positively and have a good mindset. If we always think positively and have a good mindset, then we will face existing problems with optimism. Be optimistic that the existing problems will be resolved, and the existing problems will continue to be faced with perseverance and patience. So that in the end, the existing problems will actually bring up wisdom and lessons that can be taken by the individual.
Focus on the present. To avoid stress, we must focus on life in the present, not in the past, or in the future. If we focus on the past, then we will not be able to think about moving forward and get stuck with things that have actually been through. Our minds will be filled with the past, especially the bad/negative things that have happened. Meanwhile, if we focus on the future, then we will be filled with anxiety and doubt about what will happen in the future to us.
Do worship and meditation/yoga/relaxation. By doing worship, we will be better able to face existing problems because we depend on God, and are sure that God will definitely help us. In addition, it is also necessary to do meditation/yoga/relaxation, so that our bodies and minds become calm and relaxed. So that we are not anxious about life and also the problems we are facing.
Do hobbies or activities that you like. By doing hobbies or activities that we like, it will make us feel positive feelings, as well as bring up positive emotions (happy, excited, full of motivation, and the like), in our daily lives.
Do a healthy lifestyle, namely a pattern of adequate rest, a nutritious diet, regular exercise, and staying away from drugs/alcohol/smoking. By doing a healthy lifestyle, of course, it will make our bodies always in a healthy condition. If our bodies are healthy, it will affect our psychology which is also healthy. With a healthy psychology, of course we will be better able to face problems better.
Spend time with the closest people (family, friends, or best friends). By spending time with the closest people, it will make us feel needed, supported, and also loved. These feelings will of course produce a healthy psychology, so that when we face problems, we remain in positive feelings and emotions so that we do not become stressed.
Express your complaints to people we trust. If there are any, express your complaints as the effects of the problems we have, to people we trust. By complaining, it will reduce the burden we carry due to the emergence of problems that we have.
Come to a psychologist when you need help. If you want to complain safely, comfortably, and produce much more positive feelings, then come to a psychologist (because they are professionals who are equipped with qualified knowledge). In front of a psychologist, we can pour out all the complaints we have, as well as ask for solutions and suggestions for the problems we face. If we have poured out all the complaints we have, and get solutions/suggestions for the problems we face, then it will definitely be much easier for us to deal with the problems we have, so we will not experience stress.
