Rainfall Starts High, Prevent Dengue Fever This Way!

Hello, Hermina friends! Lately, heavy rainfall has had an impact on all aspects, both in terms of the environment and health. Heavy rains will make the environment humid, which will result in a lot of stagnant water. This will cause various diseases to arise, one of which is dengue hemorrhagic fever, commonly known as DHF. Dengue hemorrhagic fever, or DHF, is a disease caused by two types of mosquitoes, namely Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Mild symptoms of dengue fever will cause flu-like symptoms and a high fever, while severe symptoms of dengue fever will cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. -Sudden death, to serious bleeding

During the rainy season, the Aedes aegypti mosquito population increases significantly. This is due to the hatching of Aedes aegypti mosquito eggs, which should not have hatched due to the flooding of their breeding habitat by rainwater. This hatching results in an increase in the population of dengue mosquitoes so that it can have an impact on the spread of dengue fever transmission. The life span of the Aedes aegypti mosquito will be longer if there is high rainfall due to the high humidity level. Dengue hemorrhagic fever, or DHF, cannot be transmitted from infected people because dengue fever is transmitted from mosquito bites. Dengue fever itself has several symptoms, including:

  • High body temperature accompanied by fluctuating fever
  • The gums are bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Breaths that become irregular
  • Nausea accompanied by vomiting

Preventive steps must be taken so that we can all avoid being bitten by dengue fever mosquitoes. There are several ways to reduce the risk of being bitten by dengue hemorrhagic mosquitoes:

  • Wear protective clothing.

When traveling or visiting areas that are likely to be infested with mosquitoes, it is highly recommended to wear clothes that can protect our bodies from mosquito bites, for example, shirts with long sleeves, socks, shoes, and trousers.

  • Eliminate mosquito habitats.

The habitat of dengue virus-carrying mosquitoes is usually found around the house or inside the house; they can usually breed in stagnant water or in empty containers, for example in animal feeding containers, plant pots, used car tires, and flower vases. For this reason, within a week, you have to routinely eliminate the habitat where the mosquitoes lay their eggs by cleaning the place.

  • Installing barriers to vents or using air conditioners

In residences that use air conditioners, they usually cover their air vents with thick material so that it will prevent mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus from entering the room. For places that do not use air conditioners, you can install a barrier net to prevent mosquitoes from entering.

If the closest person to you or yourself experiences some of the symptoms of dengue fever mentioned above, such as abdominal pain and high fever, you can take preventive steps by taking fever-reducing drugs. internal medicine for further examination.
