Symptoms that hypertension sufferers should be aware of

Hypertension is a condition of increased blood pressure where the systolic blood pressure in a person's body is more than or equal to 140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure is more than or equal to 90 mmHg. Symptoms of hypertension can occur anytime and anywhere, and usually do not last long, but can appear suddenly.

The following are symptoms of hypertension that sufferers should be aware of:

  • Recurring Headaches

Headaches are common in everyone, not just people with hypertension. In people with hypertension, headaches generally occur in the early hours of the morning. And the headaches you experience can vary from mild, moderate, severe to throbbing.

  • Out of breath

Shortness of breath is the most common symptom of pulmonary hypertension. This condition occurs due to increased blood pressure in the blood vessels that connect the heart to the lungs. In people with pulmonary hypertension, the arteries in the lungs become narrowed or blocked. This makes it difficult for the body to transport oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body, which can cause shortness of breath. Shortness of breath due to hypertension is often seen when doing physical activity, such as climbing stairs or other short physical activities.

  • Vision Changes

Chronic hypertension can also cause a condition called hypertensive retinopathy. Hypertensive retinopathy can cause blurred vision, double vision, and temporary or permanent vision loss. This disease can develop gradually over time in people with chronic, uncontrolled hypertension.

  • Fatigue

Fatigue is a common complaint of pulmonary hypertension which can affect the condition of people with hypertension. These complaints can manifest as physical fatigue, mental fatigue, reduced motivation, or a combination of both. Several conditions are related to hypertension, such as breathing problems during sleep (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) or the large number of hypertension medications that must be taken, causing physical and mental fatigue in sufferers.

  • Nausea and Vomiting

This condition of nausea and vomiting can occur in people who experience a hypertensive crisis or high blood pressure. Increased blood pressure can trigger nausea.
