Don't Let It Go! Come on, recognize and treat hernias immediately!

Many people are reluctant to consult about health when it comes to closed, intimate or sensitive areas, because they feel uncomfortable or embarrassed if they consult or have these conditions checked. One of them is a hernia which can occur in a closed area of the lower part of the body. In fact, a hernia that is too late to recognize and treat can cause a more serious condition if left untreated, as it can cut off blood flow to the intestine and cause death of the affected or pinched intestinal tissue. And this can be life-threatening and requires immediate surgery.

To avoid this, here are answers to questions that can answer Hermina's friends' concerns regarding hernias and their treatment.

What is a Hernia?

A hernia is a protrusion or protrusion of a cavity through a gap or defect. Hernias can occur in anyone from babies, children to adults. Hernias also do not differentiate between gender and can occur in both men and women.

What are the symptoms of a hernia???

The main symptom of an intestinal hernia (prolapsed intestine) is a lump that comes and goes or stays in the stomach or groin area which can sometimes go down to the genitals. If left unchecked, it can cause the risk of the intestine being pinched, resulting in symptoms of obstruction accompanied by symptoms of ischemia (interrupted blood flow) in the form of pain which can lead to necrosis or death of the pinched intestine. This condition is called a strangulated hernia.

What causes a hernia???

Hernias that occur in adulthood and old age can be a combination of birth defects (patency of the processus vaginalis-like in children) with weakness of the abdominal wall as well as trigger factors such as increased intra-abdominal pressure such as chronic cough, frequent straining due to difficulty defecating or difficulty urinating in BPH patients, or frequent heavy lifting in inappropriate positions or movements, which actually causes an increase in intra-abdominal pressure. As well as due to other conditions such as ascites and collagen disorders.

What are the hernia treatment options?

The best treatment for intestinal hernias is herniotomy surgery (for pediatric hernias) or hernioplasty surgery with mesh installation (for adult hernias) either open or laparoscopically so that the defect is closed and the abdominal wall is stronger.

After surgery, can I do any activities?

After surgery, patients can still carry out normal activities as usual by avoiding trigger factors that increase intra-abdominal pressure, especially 1-2 months after surgery.

How about Hermina friends? Do you already know what the symptoms of a hernia are and how to treat them, so it's important for us to immediately recognize and know the symptoms of a hernia, so that we can immediately take quick and appropriate treatment, so that it doesn't interfere with a person's activities and quality of life.
