Carcinoma of the Nasopharynx

A malignant tumor that originates from the nasopharyngeal epithelium and has a frequent preference for the Rosenmuller fossa is known as nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

It is possible to treat nasopharyngeal cancer, particularly if it is found early. However, the course of treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma can differ based on the patient's overall health, the cancer's location, stage, and history of the disease.

It is thought that nasopharyngeal cancer is more harmful if it is not properly treated or if therapy is delayed. The respiratory tract behind the nose and at the top of the throat might be affected by nasopharyngeal cancer.

Causative Element

The following causes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma:

  • Genetic factors
  • Infection with Epstein-Barr virus (VEB)
  • Environmental elements include alcohol consumption, smoking, and carcinogen exposure
  • Food-related factors include eating salted fish, which has nitrosamine in it

Because nasopharyngeal cancer is hidden, patients often delay seeking therapy, making early diagnosis challenging.

Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Symptoms

  • Runny and blocked nose
  • Nosebleed
  • The middle ear becomes fluid-filled.
  • Ears ring and feel full.
  • Problems of hearing

In more advanced levels, however, you can find:

  • swollen areas on the neck
  • dual vision
  • There was a nervous collapse.

A nasoendoscopic examination, an imaging examination using a CT scan, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can all support the diagnosis of non-particulate matter (NPC).

Confirming the diagnosis with histopathological analysis of nasopharyngeal biopsies is the gold standard. In addition to nasopharyngeal biopsy, nasopharyngeal brushing, suction, and washing can also be used to obtain material for histological evaluation. Basically, radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, or a combination of these can be used as NPC therapeutic techniques.

Radiation therapy can be used alone in the early stages. However, chemotherapy or a combination may be required if cancer has progressed to an advanced stage.

To prevent more issues, don't wait to get checked out by a specialized physician at the closest medical institution if you have any of these symptoms.
