FEAR of ABANDONMENT

Fear of being abandoned means a condition that occurs as a result of bad experiences or heavy pressure in the past. The fear of losing does not occur at ordinary intensity, people with this condition can even experience an extraordinary fear of being abandoned by the people closest to them. People with this condition are unlikely to have healthy relationships.

Bad experiences in the past can shape a person into who he is today. Including for people who experience fear of abandonment or fear of being abandoned. Not just ordinary fear or disappointment, people who experience it will feel extraordinary fear if the person closest to them will leave.

This all stems from traumatic experiences in the past, whether it was when I was a child or being involved in a complicated relationship when I was growing up. When someone feels the fear of abandonment, it's impossible to be able to have a healthy relationship. Almost the same as pistanthrophobia, only this is more of a fear of feeling lost.

Symptoms of Fear of Abandonment :

People who experience fear of being abandoned will experience several symptoms such as:

Sensitive to criticism

• Difficulty trusting other people

• Difficulty starting new friendships

• Really avoids being separated from the closest people

• Avoid rejection

• Repeat unhealthy love relationships

• Hard to commit in a relationship

• Do your best to please the people closest to you

• Blame yourself when things don't go as expected

• Forcing unhealthy relationships

Causes of Fear of Abandonment:

As mentioned above, fear of abandonment can occur because you have been abandoned both physically and emotionally in the past. For example, young children whose closest people died, were abandoned by their parents, or were rejected from the circle of friends.

Other factors such as directly seeing the closest person experiencing prolonged illness or being betrayed by a partner can also trigger a person to experience fear of abandonment.

Types of Fear of Abandonment :

Emotional

Everyone has emotional needs. If it is not fulfilled, you may feel unappreciated, unloved and disconnected. As a result, you will feel very alone, even when in a relationship with someone who is physically present.

Childhood separation

It often happens to train children to be more independent by leaving them for a while. They may cry and refuse to part with their parents, and they will be happy when their parents come back. This is a difficult situation of fear of abandonment for children, especially those aged 3 and under.

Romantic relationship problems

When in a romantic relationship with a partner, be dependent and allow yourself to be vulnerable in a relationship. Fear of abandonment makes you have trust issues, be suspicious, and worry too much about the harmony of a relationship. Ultimately, your fears can cause your partner to back off. This can perpetuate your fear in the future.

Your fear can still be overcome and healed. So, remind yourself of the positive qualities that make you a good friend, child and partner. Work on maintaining relationships and building your support network. The goal is to increase self-esteem and a sense of belonging within you.
