Know the Difference between Disabilities and Disabilities

Often thought to have the same meaning, in fact disability and disability have different meanings. Hermina's friends already know the difference or not. Disability and disability are generally used as terms that describe a person's limitations in carrying out certain activities.

Differences between Disabilities and Disabilities

Disability is the inability of a person to perform a certain activity.

Types of Disabilities:

  • Physical Disabilities

Physical disabilities experience disturbances in their movement functions so that they are limited in carrying out activities related to mobility.

  • Intellectual Disabilities

This condition refers to disturbances in the ability and function of the mind, including difficulties in communicating and social skills.

  • Mental Disabilities

This condition refers to the disruption of psychological functions, emotions, behavior and thoughts. Examples include bipolar, depression, anxiety disorders.

  • Sensory Disabilities

This condition refers to disruption of one of the sensory functions, for example the blind, deaf, or speech impaired.

Take time for the sufferer to do or say something

Provide clear and comprehensive services and instructions

 

People with disabilities such as the deaf, speak clearly using a normal voice

 

Avoid situations that could make the situation worse

 

Speech-impaired persons, speak clearly and prepare writing materials

 

Providing time flexibility, in order to be able to undergo treatment and training to overcome the disease

 

People with visual impairments, introduce themselves before speaking

 

From the definitions above, it can be concluded that the terms disability and disability are actually not much different. The difference between the two can be seen from the use of these terms in everyday life.

This is why the term disabled is more subtle than disability. This is because there are light and heavy degrees in the word disabled. After understanding the difference between disability and disability, it is now hoped that they can show more empathy and not demean people with disabilities.
