Cholesterol Rises During Eid? Here are 5 Ways to Lose It!

During Hari Raya, Muslims usually stay in touch while eating typical Eid dishes. Dishes made from animal foods, from opor, rendang and curry often contain fat and cholesterol, thereby increasing cholesterol levels after Eid. Too much cholesterol in the blood can stick to the walls of arteries or arteries. As a result, it will narrow or even block the blood flow that flows from the heart to the rest of the body.

So, how do you lower cholesterol after Eid?

1. Change to a Healthy Diet.

To lower cholesterol, the first thing you need to do is change your diet to a healthier one. Reporting from the British National Health Service (NHS) page, try to reduce fatty foods, especially foods containing saturated fat. However, people with high cholesterol can still eat healthy fatty foods or foods containing unsaturated fats. Try to eat more of: Oily fish, such as mackerel and salmon Brown rice or whole wheat bread Nuts and seeds Fruit and vegetables. Additionally, try to eat less: Sausages and fatty meats Butter, lard and ghee Cream and hard cheeses such as cheddar Cakes and biscuits Foods containing coconut oil or palm oil.

2. Get more exercise

Exercise is important to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. It doesn't need to be long, just do 30 minutes of exercise per day.

3. Stop smoking

Quitting smoking will increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL), aka good cholesterol, in the blood. This good cholesterol functions to prevent narrowing of blood vessels due to fat and cholesterol. It is noted that within 20 minutes after stopping smoking, blood pressure and heart rate will recover from the spike caused by smoking.

4. Lose Weight

Also increase physical activity, such as choosing to take the stairs rather than the escalator or elevator when visiting a shopping center.

5. Reduce Stress

Long-term stress can increase bad cholesterol (LDL) levels. This can happen because of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline which are released when stressed. Therefore, try to always manage stress well from time to time
