To achieve good health in old age, it is necessary to adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent chronic diseases, such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

In general, a chronic disease is a condition that lasts for a year or more and requires ongoing medical care. Chronic diseases can also be defined as diseases that require long-term treatment, and can affect a person's quality of life as they can limit daily activities.
Some of the causes or risk factors of chronic diseases include:

  1. Genetic factors
  2. An unhealthy lifestyle, including drinking a lot of alcohol, consuming non-nutritious food, smoking, and physical inactivity
  3. Environmental factors.

Types of Chronic Diseases
There are four types of chronic diseases that are commonly suffered by Indonesians, namely:

  1. Heart disease
  2. Stroke
  3. Cancer
  4. Diabetes mellitus T.2

Diabetes is one of the chronic diseases that many Indonesians suffer from. One type of diabetes is hereditary diabetes or type 2 diabetes which will be discussed in this article.

Type 2 diabetes is a condition that occurs because the body cannot use insulin effectively. As a result, blood sugar or blood glucose levels in the body increase past normal limits. This condition can cause problems with the circulatory system.

There are two main problems experienced by people with type 2 diabetes:

  1. First, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar in the cells.
  2. Second, the body's cells cannot respond properly to insulin and take in less sugar

Some of the causes or risk factors that trigger the emergence of hereditary diabetes include:

  1. Obesity (overweight)
  2. Lack of physical activity (rarely exercise)
  3. Unhealthy diet
  4. Genetic factors or a family history of diabetes

Symptoms
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes usually develop slowly. Many people live with type 2 diabetes for a long time without realizing it. Here are some symptoms that appear in people with type 2 diabetes:

  1. Excessive thirst.
  2. More frequent urination.
  3. Feeling hungry easily.
  4. Blurred vision.
  5. Wounds that are difficult to heal and more often get infections.
  6. Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet.
  7. Areas of blackened skin, usually in the armpits and neck
