Get to know anemia and how to overcome it with a healthy lifestyle

Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to transport oxygen to all tissues. Anemia can cause various complaints, such as fatigue, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, and headaches. Anemia can also worsen other health conditions, such as heart and kidney problems. For this reason, it is very important to prevent anemia with the following steps:

1.Eat foods that are high in iron.
Iron is a mineral needed by the body to form hemoglobin, which is the substance that gives blood cells their red color and binds oxygen. Foods rich in iron include lean meat, eggs, green vegetables such as spinach and kale, and iron-fortified cereals. The iron requirement per day for adults is 26 mg.

2.Eat foods that are high in vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps make healthy red blood cells and maintain nerve function. Foods rich in vitamin B12 include animal liver, shellfish, fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and milk and dairy products. The vitamin B12 requirement per day for adults is 2.6 mcg.

3.Eat foods that are high in folic acid
Folic acid or vitamin B9 is a nutrient that helps in the formation of new cells, including red blood cells. Foods rich in folic acid include green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, peas, bread, cereals, rice and pasta.

4.Eat foods that are high in vitamin C
Vitamin C is a nutrient that helps the absorption of iron from food. Vitamin C also plays a role in maintaining the immune system and protecting cells from damage. Foods rich in vitamin C include oranges, kiwi, red peppers, broccoli and tomatoes.

5.Taking blood supplement tablets (TTD) regularly
TTD is a supplement containing iron and folic acid that can help prevent and treat anemia. TTD is recommended for consumption by adolescent girls and women of childbearing age who are at risk of anemia due to menstruation or pregnancy. TTD can be obtained for free at the nearest health facility.

6.Maintain a healthy lifestyle
A healthy lifestyle includes avoiding cigarettes and alcohol, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and managing stress well. A healthy lifestyle can help maintain hormonal balance, improve blood flow, and strengthen the immune system.

7.Conduct regular health checks
Health check-ups can help detect anemia or its causes early on. A check-up includes a complete blood test to determine your hemoglobin level and the type of anemia you have. It may also include other tests to check for chronic diseases or infections that may cause anemia.
These are some of the anemia prevention steps you can take to keep your blood healthy. If you experience symptoms of anemia or have further questions about anemia, contact your doctor or nearest health facility immediately.
