Anxiery Disorder and How to Overcome It
Anxiety disorder is a mental disorder where a person experiences excessive anxiety. Although anxiety is a natural thing, if the anxiety you experience continues to interfere with your daily activities, you should be more vigilant.
If left untreated, people with excessive anxiety disorder may experience difficulty performing daily activities, decreased academic performance or achievement at school, and difficulty interacting with others.
Causes of Anxiety Disorder
The cause of excessive anxiety due to anxiety disorder is unfortunately still uncertain at this time. However, there are many factors that can make a person more susceptible to anxiety disorders, including:
- More excessive activity in areas of the brain involved in controlling emotions and behavior.
- Genetic factors and family history increase the risk of developing the disease.
- Prolonged stress, due to mental distress, family problems, or economic problems.
- A history of childhood psychological trauma.
Characteristics or symptoms of Anxiety Disorder
The first symptom of those suffering from anxiety disorder is a feeling of fear or nervousness that causes heart palpitations. So that your body and mind will have difficulty controlling emotions when faced with something. This fear and anxiety can cause you to have panic attacks.
Here are some common symptoms of Anxiety disorder
- Anxiety is difficult to control.
- Restlessness and panic.
- Tired, but having trouble sleeping.
- Difficulty concentrating.
- Irritability and short temper.
- Tingling in the hands and feet and sweating.
How to deal with Anxiety Disorder
Unlike generalized anxiety that can go away on its own, excessive anxiety caused by anxiety disorder will not go away without treatment from a psychologist or psychiatrist.
To help relieve the high levels of anxiety you may be experiencing, a psychologist or psychiatrist (psychiatric doctor) may prescribe medication in the following ways:
1.Psychotherapy
When you undergo psychotherapy, you can talk and express your feelings. In addition, psychologists and psychiatrists will provide advice on how to understand and relieve excessive anxiety. It also guides you to reduce stress, for example with relaxation and meditation.
2.Supportive Therapy
This alternative treatment works to manage stress and overcome anxiety. Supportive activities include yoga, meditation etc.
3.Medical Treatment
Medications recommended by psychiatrists do not focus on treating anxiety disorders, but on improving symptoms. Common medications are benzodiazepines, antidepressants, and beta blockers. Beta blockers work to lower the heart rate which can cause a person's physical condition to be compromised. However, the use of anxiety medication should be prescribed by a doctor.
