Controlling Cholesterol During Eid

Eid or Eid al-Fitr is the time that Muslims look forward to after a full month of fasting. This Hari Raya is a moment for family gathering and enjoying a special Eid food menu such as chicken opor, rendang, pastries served with sweet drinks. Opor ayam contains ingredients with high cholesterol content such as coconut milk, offal, saturated oil. Pastries contain high sugar, and are prepared with margarine with saturated oil content, and egg yolks.

Cholesterol is fat in the body which has many important functions in the body in sufficient levels. If cholesterol levels are excessive, it can harm the body, one of which is the buildup of cholesterol plaque in blood vessels and also causes other diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and others. Therefore it is necessary to prevent high cholesterol.

 

Here are some tips for preventing high cholesterol during Eid
1. Regulating meal portions: the recommended meal portions are 1/3 carbohydrate plates, 1/3 vegetables and 1/3 protein and fruit, and of course adjusted to the calorie needs of each individual.
2. Limiting foods containing high cholesterol: limiting methods such as choosing meat with little fat, avoiding eating offal and egg yolks, and minimizing consumption of coconut milk, and eating Eid snacks with small portions.
3. Consuming omega 3: foods that contain omega 3 such as salmon, mackerel, cod liver oil, walnuts. Omega 3 helps maintain heart health and helps reduce bad cholesterol in the body.
4. Increase fiber: fiber such as vegetables and fruits helps dissolve the fat eaten.
5. Reducing sweet consumption: excess sugar consumption can increase cholesterol levels and disrupt the body's metabolism.
6. Exercise regularly: in addition to limiting fat consumption, exercise is highly recommended to burn calories and reduce cholesterol levels in the body.
