PCNL as a Minimally Invasive Treatment for Kidney Stones, Here's What a Urology Specialist Doctor at Hermina Tangkubanprahu Hospital Says
Hermina Tangkubanprahu Hospital (RS) Malang has a Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) service to help patients who experience kidney stone problems using the Minimally Invasive Endourology surgical method.
The PCNL method aims to remove stones from kidney patients with minimal action in accordance with both Indonesian and international guidelines. Such as the European Urological Association Guidelines and the American Urological Association Guidelines.
Dr. dr. Paksi Satyagraha Spu (K) M.Kes from Hermina Tangkubanprahu Hospital, Malang, explained that PCNL can be used for operations to remove small stones, even up to 2 cm.
"So this is one of the Minimally Invasive Endourology treatments or operations that is most effective in removing kidney stones," said Dr. Paksi Satyagraha.
Furthermore, he also explained what tools were used in the PCNL procedure, namely a large nephroscope or conventional PCNL. There are sizes 24 or 26 or approximately 1 cm. Or there is a smaller one called dr. Paksi Satyagraha as a Mini Nephroscope where the wound will be smaller, even less than 0.5 cm.
“So these two tools will enter the patient's kidneys. Then it is solved using various Lithotripsy techniques, you can use Pneumatic Lithotripsy or Ultrasound. "Or even if the stone is small and uses a Mini Pneumatic, there are lasers," he explained.
"There are others that are smaller, the size of a Mini Nephroscope, there are Micro Pneumatic or Ultramini ones. "However, in Indonesia there are still not many tools like that available," added Dr. Satyagraha Axis.
According to him, the two conventional and mini PCNL tools are sufficient to remove various types of stones from the patient's body.
There are several benefits presented by Dr. Paksi Satyagraha from PCNL services at Hermina Tangkubanprahu Hospital, Malang. The advantage of using Minimally Invasive Endourology is that it is hoped that patient complications will be lower.
Apart from that, pain rates are getting lower, treatment rates are getting lower, and patients can return to their normal activities and become more productive.
But on the other hand, dr. Paksi Satyagraha also explained that there were losses from PCNL's actions in certain cases.
“The disadvantage is in very large stones such as stagham stones. "Sometimes this modality requires 2 or 3 or even more punctures or maybe several sessions," he explained.
"However, all these disadvantages actually still have many advantages because the complication rate, pain rate, length of stay and morbidity are much lower than open surgery," concluded Dr. Satyagraha Axis.
