Comfortable Travel; Here are tips for maintaining health when returning home for Eid

The month of Ramadhan is a time eagerly awaited by Muslims in Indonesia, not only because of the fasting that is carried out but also because of precious moments such as Eid homecoming. However, these long journeys often carry health risks. From fatigue to the risk of disease transmission, maintaining health when returning home for Eid is very important. Below, we present some health tips that you need to pay attention to while traveling:

1. Prepare yourself well before leaving.

Before starting your homecoming trip, make sure you have prepared yourself well. This includes arranging travel itineraries, checking vehicles, and making sure you and your family are in good health for long trips.

2. Pay attention to vehicle condition and travel route.

Make sure the vehicle you use to go home is in prime condition. Check tires, brakes, oil, and everything else important. Apart from that, choose a safe travel route and reduce the risk of getting stuck in a long traffic jam.

3. Maintain cleanliness and wear a mask.

When traveling using public transportation or in crowded places such as stations or terminals, make sure to always maintain cleanliness. Use a mask to protect yourself from exposure to bacteria or viruses that may be in the air.

4. Take care of your mental health.

Long journeys and heavy traffic can cause stress and anxiety. Look for ways to maintain your mental health, such as listening to calming music or practicing relaxation breathing techniques.

5. Meet your nutritional and drinking water needs.

During the trip, avoid food and drinks of questionable cleanliness. Choose a clean place to eat, and make sure the food you consume is cooked well. Here are some healthy foods that you can consume before Eid homecoming:

  • Fresh Fruits : Fresh fruits are rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, which are important for keeping your body healthy. Choose fruit such as apples, oranges, bananas, and grapes as a healthy snack or addition to your breakfast. Fruits also contain high levels of water, helping to keep the body hydrated.
  • Green Vegetables : Green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and kale contain many important nutrients such as iron, calcium, and vitamin C. Green vegetables are also low in calories and high in fiber, making them a healthy food choice that is suitable for the Eid homecoming.
  • Healthy Proteins: Healthy proteins such as lean meat, fish, eggs, and tofu/tempeh are good sources of energy for your body. Protein helps repair body tissue and keeps your muscles healthy, which is important for maintaining physical strength during travel.
  • Complex Carbohydrates : Choose sources of complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole wheat bread, or potatoes as part of your diet. Complex carbohydrates provide long-lasting energy and keep blood sugar levels stable, reducing the risk of feeling hungry or tired during the trip.
  • Healthy Snacks:  Avoid snacks that are high in sugar and saturated fat, such as sugary pastries or greasy chips. Instead, choose healthy snacks like nuts, dried fruit, or low-fat yogurt to provide extra energy and satisfy your hunger.

  • Water : Don't forget the importance of consuming enough water. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to keep your body well hydrated. Dehydration can cause fatigue and other discomfort during travel.

  • Limit your consumption of foods high in sugar and fat. Avoid foods high in sugar and fat, which tend to make you feel tired and sluggish. Limit consumption of fast food, processed foods, and fizzy drinks that are less nutritious.

6. Get enough rest.

Apart from maintaining a healthy diet, make sure you also get enough rest. Quality sleep helps strengthen your immune system and prepares the body for a long journey.

7. Bring regular medication.

For travelers who have a history of previous illnesses, don't forget to make sure you bring regular medication, take medication regularly, and know what symptoms you should pay attention to if your illness recurs. If the symptoms of the disease recur, immediately go to the health posts that are available on the homecoming routes.

8. Watch for unusual health symptoms.

If you or a family member experiences unusual symptoms during the trip, such as nausea, dizziness, or fever, immediately have your health checked at the nearest health service.

Maintaining health during the Eid homecoming is not difficult if you prepare well. By following the tips above, you can travel home comfortably and happily with your beloved family. Happy homecoming, and I hope your journey goes smoothly and you reach your destination safely!
