Spina Bifida Will Impact This If Not Prevented

What is spina bifida? Let's Listen!
Spina bifida is actually not a new disease, but it has been around for decades. The problem is that maybe some of us don't recognize that this disease actually exists, what is the name of the disease, and what kind of prevention can even be done so that the disease does not occur. Medically, spina bifida is a lump in the spine, usually above the buttocks and appears after birth. This lump is part of the spinal cord.
So at 18 days of gestation, the neural tube begins to form and has an open end (neuropore) on the lower and upper sides that are still open. The upper end of the neural tube will form the brain and the lower end will form the spinal cord. At 24 days of gestation, the lower neuropore will close. Failure to close the lower neural tube of the nervous system will later become a congenital abnormality or birth defect known as spina bifida.
Medically, there are two types of spina bifida, namely closed or occult spina bifida and open or aperta spina bifida. Under normal circumstances the spine is perfectly closed protecting the spinal nerves. In spina bifida occulta there is a bone defect, but no nerve fibers exit through the bone defect. In spina bifida, the spine is open, there is a bone defect and there is nerve tissue that exits through the defect.
The exact cause of spina bifida is not known with certainty, but there are risk factors including folic acid deficiency and TORCH infection. Ultimately it will cause failure to close the lower neural tube during the embryological process in the uterus.
Early detection of spina bifida from birth can be done. With routine prenatal care checks to prevent disease and antenatal care to find out the disease management plan must be carried out. Babies who are born are not advised to give birth normally, because they are vulnerable to the lump breaking. If the lump bursts, the fluid that comes out is cerebrospinal fluid, germs from outside can enter and cause infection. If this happens, the baby must be taken to the hospital immediately and must be treated by a neurosurgeon, then surgery must be carried out immediately to cover the lump wound that has broken. If not treated immediately, the baby can suffer from meningitis, sepsis and even death.
