Beware of metabolic syndrome! Especially "Kaum Mager"?

Maybe some of Hermina's friends have heard of or haven't heard of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome consists of two words: "syndrome" and "metabolic." Syndrome means a collection of symptoms, and metabolic comes from the word metabolism. So metabolic syndrome is a collection of symptoms or diseases that interfere with a person's metabolism. This metabolic syndrome can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease. It can also increase the risk of diabetes, namely type 2 diabetes, and stroke.

According to experts, the cause of the metabolic syndrome itself is not well understood. However, what can be ascertained is that there are risk factors that cause metabolic syndrome, including:

  1. Age: the older you are, the higher your risk of developing metabolic syndrome.

  2. Ethnicity or race

  3. Gender: women have a higher risk than men.

  4. A pattern of life that is "mager" or lacks physical activity

  5. People with special conditions, such as having diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes)

There are five symptoms of metabolic syndrome:

  1. Central obesity (people whose bodies are like an apple shape or pear shape) or are distended. If the size of the abdominal circumference is above 102 cm for men and above 89 cm for women,

  2. Blood pressure above 130/85 mmHg

  3. Triglyceride levels over 150 mg/dL

  4. increased fasting blood sugar

  5. Decreased levels of HDL (high density lipoprotein), or good cholesterol.

If you experience three of the five symptoms above, then you have metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome complications
The complications of metabolic syndrome include:

  1. Diabetes

  2. Coronary heart disease

  3. Stroke Disease

  4. Cancer

How can I prevent getting metabolic syndrome?
Exercise more or less 50 minutes a week. So the recommended foods are foods that are high in fiber, such as fruit, vegetables, and wheat; an easy example is brown rice, which has more fiber than plain white rice. Routinely carry out health checks so you can find out the right next steps.
