Treatment of Burns Caused by Fireworks in New Year Celebrations

Celebrating the New Year is incomplete if you don't light firecrackers or fireworks. Towards the evening until the peak of New Year's Eve, the sound of fireworks will be heard muttering to each other. Not only adults, but small children also enjoy playing with fireworks, even though it is dangerous. One of the dangers is burns caused by fireworks.

Why are fireworks dangerous?

Because fireworks contain flammable materials, such as powder residue, that can cause explosions or sparks, Fireworks themselves have many chemicals in them, which, when burned, cause a rapid chemical reaction that produces hot gases and explosions.

Burns, or Combustio, are not only caused by fireworks; they can also be caused by electric current, chemicals, and lightning hitting the skin, deeper tissues, and mucosa. Burns can affect cell function and metabolism.

Fireworks Burn First Aid

It is important to know the main steps for treating burns caused by fireworks, including the following:

Cool the Burn Using Flowing Water

Using running water on the burn for about 10–15 minutes can reduce the skin temperature and stop the burning process that continues to occur on the skin. Avoid using ice water or ice cubes directly on the wound, as this can cause further damage.

Do Not Apply Toothpaste or Odol

Applying toothpaste to burns is not recommended, as toothpaste is not an ingredient for treating burns. Applying toothpaste to burns can increase the risk of infection.

Remove any clothing or jewelry attached to the body.

Immediately remove jewelry or clothing so as not to stick to the burn and cause obstruction of first aid.

Take to the hospital immediately.

Someone who has suffered a severe burn should be taken to the hospital for medical treatment to assess the severity, prevent infection of the wound, get painkillers, and monitor the progress of their condition.

These are the first aid tips for burns caused by fireworks that can be given by Sahabat Hermina. Prioritizing safety and taking preventive measures is a necessity. By understanding the dangers of fireworks and knowing how to handle them properly, you can avoid the risk of burns.

Handling Children with Cleft Lip

Cleft lip, or a cleft palate, is a congenital defect that occurs in infants when the lip and the roof of the mouth do not fully fuse. This condition can occur in the upper lip, lower lip, or both. Children with cleft lip require special care and more intensive treatment to help improve their condition.

The first treatment usually given to babies with cleft lip is surgery. The first surgery is typically performed when the baby is around 3 months old and its goal is to bring together the separated lip and roof of the mouth. This surgery is very important as it helps the baby breastfeed and avoid other health problems.

After the surgery, children with cleft lip require intensive care. Doctors will examine the child regularly to ensure that the post-operative wound heals properly. The baby may also need to use aids such as a special feeding bottle or a pacifier to help with feeding.

In addition to surgery, children with cleft lip also require care from a medical team consisting of a dentist, plastic surgeon, speech therapist, and psychologist. The dentist will ensure that the child's teeth grow well and help address any dental health problems that may arise due to cleft lip. The plastic surgeon will help improve the appearance of the child's lip and face. Speech therapy and psychology are also important to help children learn to speak and overcome any mental health problems that may arise.

In addition to medical care, children with cleft lip also require special attention from their families and surroundings. Children with cleft lip may experience pressure and stress, so it is very important for families and friends to provide support and love. Families must also ensure that the child receives balanced nutrition and optimal healthcare.

Overall, the management of children with cleft lip requires a trained medical team and strong family support. With proper care, children with cleft lip can grow and develop like other children and live confidently.

“MOMMY MAKEOVER”: Restoration of a Woman's Body after Childbirth

The process of pregnancy and childbirth will generally cause changes in a woman's body. These changes, although a natural and normal process, often result in a less than optimal body shape and interfere with the woman's quality of life. This condition can be corrected by a procedure commonly known as "mommy makeover," which is a series of aesthetic plastic surgery procedures that aim to restore the shape and appearance of a woman's body after pregnancy and childbirth.

Mommy Makeover Procedure Coverage

Mommy makeover is a plastic surgery procedure that is included in body sculpting or body contouring and is intended to improve appearance through harmonization of body shape. Mommy Makeover procedures may include the following body parts:

Breast

Will undergo volume changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so the breasts appear to shrink and drop. In addition, the areola (dark area around the nipple) may widen. This area can be repaired with a breast lift or reduction and an areola reduction. Augmentation with implants can also help increase the volume and position of the drooping breast after breastfeeding.

Stomach

is an area of the body that often experiences fat accumulation, especially when weight fluctuations occur during pregnancy. Liposuction (liposuction) can be performed to reduce fat accumulation if the abdominal wall is still tight, while a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is performed when the abdominal wall is loose. Depending on the patient's abdominal condition, these two procedures can be performed simultaneously.

External Genitalia

The process of childbirth can cause a decrease in the elasticity of the vaginal wall and injury to the perineum (the area between the vagina and anus). Vaginal wall slack and perineal injuries can be restored to their pre-delivery state with a vaginoperineoplasty (vaginal rejuvenation) procedure. The appearance of the vaginal lips can also be improved by labiaplasty.

Arms and Thighs

This is the part that is affected by fluctuations in body weight after pregnancy. This area can be repaired with liposuction. If the skin wall is loose, brachioplasty or thighplasty can be done to tighten the skin.

Each individual's body condition is not the same. A woman may experience one, some, or a combination of these conditions. But it should be remembered that all of the above conditions are actually a normal result of the natural process of pregnancy and childbirth. A woman's decision to consult and undergo a body-shape harmonization procedure must depart from the woman's personal motivation to improve her own quality of life, not encouragement from people around her, social media, or even doctors.

Mommy Makeover Procedure Candidate

The ideal candidate for a mommy makeover procedure is a post-pregnancy and post-delivery woman with:

General condition is healthy. Mommy makeover procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia, so optimal physical conditions are required. To ensure this, the plastic surgeon will work closely with the internist and anesthesiologist so that the operation can run smoothly and safely.
a healthy way of life with a stable weight The body contouring procedure is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, nor is it a method for weight loss, but rather an action to improve persistent areas that persist even after a healthy lifestyle. To achieve and maintain the best surgical results, patient consistency in maintaining a balanced diet and activity is very important.
Have realistic motivations and expectations. Each body contouring procedure has its own indications, advantages, and limitations. This is where education plays an important role so that patients get the right understanding of the actions they will undergo.

Planning and Maintaining Postoperative Outcomes

Good surgical planning includes the timing of the operation and pregnancy planning. The assessment of body condition and planning for body contouring surgery need to be carried out after the patient's body has completed the healing and recovery process, which is at least 6 months after the last pregnancy and delivery. The same goes for planning the next pregnancy. As previously explained, the results obtained after body contouring are not permanent. A healthy lifestyle through a balanced diet and exercise is very important to maintain optimal operating results. Meanwhile, the pregnancy process will almost certainly affect the metabolism and overall health. Therefore, the ideal candidate for a mommy makeover is actually a woman who is not planning on getting pregnant again. The process of planning a mature mommy makeover requires a thorough consultation and physical examination. Don't be mistaken, this is the difference between reconstructive plastic surgery and aesthetic plastic surgery.

Often, plastic surgery is misunderstood as "beauty surgery". This is not wrong, but only covers a small part of the very broad field of plastic surgery. The competence of a plastic surgeon consists of two things, namely, reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery.

Plastic Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive plastic surgery focuses on efforts to repair or restore abnormal body shape and function, whether caused by birth defects, injuries, tumors, infections, metabolic disorders, and so on. The realm of reconstruction is usually grouped into 6 main areas:

Burns. Plastic surgery treats cases of heat-induced trauma, such as fire, hot water, electricity, chemicals, etc., including long-term complications of burns such as scars and contractures (impaired movement).
Craniofacial Common cases in this field include traumatic facial injuries and fractures, as well as congenital abnormalities such as cleft lip and palate.
Wound and tumor reconstruction. This field includes wound management such as diabetic foot and pressure ulcers; wound closure after tumor removal; as well as abnormal scar problems such as keloids, sunken scars, etc.
Hands. Cases in this field include trauma to the soft tissues and bones of the hand, as well as congenital abnormalities such as syndactyly (sticky fingers).
External genitalia Examples of cases handled by plastic surgery in this field are circumcision, hypospadias (an abnormal location of the urinary opening), and complications after injection of liquid silicone.
Microsurgery Cases covered in microplastic surgery include amputation of fingers and the penis.

Plastic Surgery for Aesthetic Purposes In contrast to the realm of reconstruction, aesthetic plastic surgery aims to improve or beautify the appearance of normal body parts. Broadly speaking, the aesthetic realm is divided into 4 areas:

Augmentation, namely "adding" certain body parts to make them look more harmonious. This includes rhinoplasty (nose beautification), breast implants, and chin implants.
Rejuvenation, namely "reversing" the effects of aging, For example, blepharoplasty (improves eye bags), face lifts, genital rejuvenation (restoring the shape and firmness of the vagina), and removal of breasts that descend after pregnancy and childbirth.
Body sculpting, which is shaping the body area to be more harmonious. This includes liposuction (suction), tummy tuck (tightens a sagging belly), brachioplasty/thighplasty (reduces arms and thighs), and buccal fat removal (tightens the cheeks).
Miscellaneous: Asian blepharoplasty (clearing of the upper eyelid crease), tattoo correction, hyperhidrosis (excess sweating), and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection.

And reconstructive surgery makes something less than normal become normal. It could be due to defects, something lost due to disability, wounds that don't heal, congenital abnormalities, or damage caused by disease to malignancy. One example of a case through reconstructive surgery is a cleft lip. The condition of the lips, which are not the same in general, can cause some functions to be disturbed.

Created by : dr. Treatment of Facial Trauma Wounds for Optimal Scars

The face is the most conspicuous part of the human body. Therefore, any injury that occurs in this area will have the potential to cause complications that interfere with the quality of life of the individual concerned. Therefore, wound management must be carried out optimally and comprehensively.

Causes and Forms of Facial Trauma

Trauma to the face can be caused by various things, such as:

Motor vehicle accident

Violence, eg. fight case

Animal attacks, eg. animal bite or scratch

Fall down
Recreational/sports activities, e.g. impact ball, knee, etc
Yourself, eg. mental disorder patient

Facial sores can take many forms and involve:

Soft tissue (scratches, bruises, tears, punctures, etc.)

Hard tissue (facial fractures, broken/loose teeth, etc.)

Facial Trauma Management

As with all trauma cases, patient management begins with a primary survey. At this step, health workers detect an emergency that requires immediate treatment. Cases of facial injuries alone, while they may appear conspicuous, rarely cause a life-threatening emergency. But sometimes trauma is accompanied by injury to other areas of the body which can lead to more urgent complications. In cases of facial trauma, the most common emergencies include airway obstruction, spinal cord injury, and central nervous system injury. For this reason, an evaluation by a multidisciplinary medical team in a health facility that has adequate facilities and infrastructure is required.

Only after the general condition of the patient is assessed to be stable can a thorough examination and management be carried out, including the treatment of facial wounds. Generally the wound is cleaned, then closed. Wound closure procedures can be carried out with wound care alone or surgical procedures such as wound suturing. Patients also receive treatment such as antitetanus, antibiotics, and painkillers as indicated.

When Should a Plastic Surgeon Be Treated

Cases of facial trauma should be treated by a plastic surgeon if:

Complex wounds (eg lacerations with ragged edges, dirty wounds)

Injuries to areas that hold vital functions (eg eyelids, lips)

There is a suspicion of damage to subcutaneous structures (nerves, blood vessels, glands, fractures, etc.)

Such cases require more detailed management, including specialized wound closure reconstructive procedures (eg wound sutures, skin grafts, etc.) and repair of critical structures (eg titanium plates to correct the position of the facial bones, wires to fixing teeth, etc.). With optimal management, it is hoped that the wound can heal within normal time limits without any short or long term complications such as infection, deformity, etc.

Scars on Facial Trauma

In a comprehensive management, management should include:

Wound planning. In "deliberate" injuries, such as facial surgery, the wound can be "designed" to produce a faint scar.

Injury cure. Wounds that arise are treated so that the healing process runs smoothly. This stage includes cleaning the wound and closing the wound with appropriate procedures.

Scar treatment after the wound has healed. After healing, the scar still undergoes a maturation period that lasts for at least 6 months. It is during this period that the plastic surgeon treats the scar and performs additional interventions if needed.

It is hoped that even if it doesn't disappear 100%, the resulting scars will be subtle and hidden. Comprehensive scar management also aims to prevent abnormal scars that protrude (keloids, hypertrophic scars), sunken (atrophic scars), or interfere with other surrounding structures (contractures).

As a comprehensive field of science, plastic surgeons do not only heal wounds, but also try to make the scars as subtle as possible, especially if the wound occurs in a vital body area such as the face. With appropriate management, it is hoped that the patient can achieve the maximum possible form and function for an optimal quality of life.

Created by : dr. NEUROFIBROMA

Neurofibroma is a type of benign tumor that grows on nerves in the body. Neurofibroma cases are quite often handled by plastic surgeons in Indonesia. Although most neurofibromas are benign, they produce unsightly lumps (often bumps on the face, limbs), sometimes the neurofibromas can hit the surrounding nerves and muscles, causing pain or other unwanted symptoms.

Neurofibromatosis is a hereditary disorder due to gene mutations. Neurofibroma patients that appear on the skin and feel pain are candidates for neurofibroma removal. Because this procedure is so safe and effective, most people can experience removal of the neurofibroma with few complications.

How is the neurofibroma removed?
Neurofibroma cases are often handled by plastic surgeons because they involve improving the patient's appearance (face). Neurofibromas will not go away on their own and often get bigger over time. Therefore, the only way to remove these tumors from the body is through surgery. The most common method of removing neurofibromas is to make an incision and remove the tumor underneath. After the neurofibroma is removed, the incision is closed with sutures. In consultation with the plastic surgeon the patient will assess the shape of the neurofibroma as well as evaluate your medical history and overall health. It is important for the patient to tell the plastic surgeon that the neurofibroma is causing adverse symptoms. The patient is also expected to tell whether the patient smokes on long-term blood thinning drugs, vitamins, or other drugs. The removal of a single neurofibroma usually takes about an hour, although it depends on size, depth, and location.

Neurofibroma removal is usually very safe, all surgeries involve some level of risk and potential complications. The most common complications include bleeding, infection, and adverse reactions to anesthesia.

Surgical removal of the neurofibroma is usually performed using local anesthesia, however, in certain cases, general anesthesia is needed to ensure the patient is comfortable and painless.

Large neurofibroma removal treatments require the patient to be treated overnight. If the size of the neurofibroma is small, the patient can be immediately treated for outpatient care (one day service). Most neurofibromas can be removed under local anesthesia, which means you can present yourself, have the procedure, and go home unattended. The incision site will usually be covered with a small, sterile dressing that will last from one day to a week.

The neurofibromal tissue sample is sent to a laboratory to be tested to confirm a neurofibroma diagnosis. Postoperative follow-up visits will usually be scheduled for one week after which the plastic surgeon can observe the healing process and remove stitches if necessary.

Patients can return to normal daily activities immediately, but are usually asked to refrain from vigorous exercise for 2-3 days.

After neurofibroma surgery, most patients experience improvement in aesthetics, as well as relief from unpleasant symptoms caused by neurofibromas. The patient's activity will improve considerably if the location of the neurofibroma is in the limbs.

MOLE

Plastic surgeons understand that something as simple as a mole can be a cosmetic problem, especially for women. Mole removal is a minor aesthetic surgery that is often performed, especially on very difficult areas of the face such as around the eyes, nose and upper lip. One of the actions to remove moles can provide peace of mind and increase patient confidence. The plastic surgery approach is oriented towards leaving minimal scars as possible, so the plastic surgeon selects the most suitable treatment option to achieve optimal aesthetic results for each mole removal case.

What is a mole?
Moles, also called nevus, are generally harmless brown, tan, pink, or sometimes blue spots that can develop anywhere on the skin. Some appear from birth, while others may develop at a later date. Moles can grow and change slightly in appearance over time.

When should a mole be removed?
The plastic surgeon should check for changes or new moles to make sure there are no signs of skin cancer. Moles often change in response to hormonal fluctuations, such as during puberty and pregnancy. Benign moles can be left untreated or removed for cosmetic reasons. In certain cases, moles that change in character lead to malignancies such as changes in shape, color, bleeding easily, scabs and drain pus, it is highly recommended to immediately remove them and carry out a biopsy examination so that it can be known the type of mole and the right treatment.

What happens during mole removal?
The plastic surgeon will examine unwanted or suspicious moles carefully to plan the best way to remove them with the least visible scars. First, the doctor will inject a local anesthetic drug to numb the area. There is a slight sting at this injection, but once the freezing is done, the procedure is completely painless.

Depending on the appearance of the mole, an incision or excision with sutures will be used to remove the mole. The choice of procedure to use will be based on which technique will leave you with minimal, inconspicuous scars. Each mole removed is mandatory and it is strongly recommended that a histological / biopsy examination of the tissue be carried out.

Are there scars after removal of the mole?
There is no way to get rid of a mole without leaving a perfect mark. Whether the area is healing on its own or being sutured, the marks are usually pink or red at first. Over the course of several months, the scars usually fade into a bright, subtle mark that is often difficult to see. Plastic surgeons with principles and experience will use the best techniques to minimize scarring and are also experts in scar repair in case of unsatisfactory scarring.

Cleft Lip Rhinoplasty

Cleft lip is a birth defect that causes deformity of the lips or roof of the mouth due to insufficient tissue to form the proper lips during pregnancy. Cleft lip also affects the shape and location of the muscles, cartilage and surrounding bones, giving rise to deformities in the facial structure. Cleft lip deformity surgery is performed at a young age (preferably in infants aged 3 months or more) and actual cleft lip rhinoplasty is performed after 18 years of age when the facial bones have fully developed. Since cleft lip nose surgery involves major modifications to various facial anatomical features, it is important to wait until the facial structure is fully developed.

The nose is one of the most prominent facial features, and its appearance contributes greatly to facial aesthetics. Nasal deformities associated with cleft lip have been seen as one of the most difficult reconstructive problems in the field of rhinoplasty. Patients with cleft lip also frequently experience nasal deformities. Nasal deformities vary in severity. In addition, this deformity can expose the patient to severe asymmetry of the nostrils and bridge of the nose.

The key to a successful cleft nose surgery is to correct the oblique shape of the nasal cartilage and the underlying hard bone (foundation). Cleft lip nose surgery gives good results using the rib cartilage (cartilage); this method requires a sophisticated technique incorporating rib cartilage grafting for patients with cleft lip nasal deformities. The combined use of rib and ear cartilage allows excellent results for correcting the deformities associated with cleft lip nose deformities. Common problems associated with cleft lip nose deformities are lack of symmetry, alar (nasal leaf) collapse on the affected side, blunt nasolabial angle, short length of the nose, loss of nose tip shape, and sloping columella. Rhinoplasty for cleft lip nose using rib cartilage can provide a stable and satisfying nose appearance as the rib cartilage is known as a strong cartilage donor for nose jobs.

"); $('#div_next_link').html(" ");
