Gastroenterology is a medical specialty that focuses on the health of the digestive system (gastrointestinal/GI).

The digestive system is a system of organs that converts food into energy needed by the body. Starting from the mouth to the anus, the digestive system also includes the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, pancreas, gallbladder, and liver.

Gastroenterology involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect these organs.
