With the aid of tiny metal disc-shaped devices (electrodes) affixed to the scalp, an electroencephalography (EEG) exam measures electrical activity in the brain. This examination is used to identify the presence of epileptic disorders or conditions that result in recurrent seizures that never go away. By performing this test, the doctor can determine the type of epilepsy the patient has in order to determine what causes repeated seizures and the best course of therapy.

Electroencephalography (EEG) should be performed when? When a patient is showing signs of a sickness connected to a brain condition or when there is a suspicion that the patient has a brain disorder, this examination is performed.
