What is a Fracture?

Bone fractures, or broken bones, can be caused by a variety of factors. Here are some common causes: 1. Trauma or Physical Injury. Direct impact from an accident, fall, or hard blow can cause a fracture. This is the most common cause, especially from traffic accidents, work accidents or sports 2. Repetitive Injuries (Stress Fractures): Repeated injuries to the same bone, such as in runners or athletes, can cause stress fractures. This occurs when the muscles are not adequately able to absorb the pressure, placing excessive stress on the bone. 3. Osteoporosis: Bones that become brittle, making them more fragile and susceptible to fracture, even with mild stress. Fractures due to osteoporosis usually occur in older age, especially in the spine, hips, and wrists. 4. Medical Conditions or Bone Diseases: Other diseases that affect bone strength, such as bone tumors, hormonal disorders, genetic conditions, can make bones more susceptible to fracture. 5. Nutritional Deficiencies: Deficiencies in calcium, vitamin D, or other essential nutrients can weaken bones and increase the risk of fracture. 6. Use of medications: some medications, such as corticosteroids taken long-term, can reduce bone strength.
