The importance of knowing your acne problem!
Acne, one of the skin problems that causes a lack of confidence, occurs when the skin pores are clogged by excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria.
Causes of Acne :
- Hormones: Hormonal changes, especially during puberty, can trigger excessive oil production.
- Genetics: The tendency to have oily skin is often inherited genetically.
- Bacteria: The bacterium Propionibacterium acnes plays a role in acne inflammation.
Skincare products: Some skincare products can clog pores and worsen acne.
- Diet: Foods high in sugar and dairy products can trigger acne in some people.
- Stress: Stress can increase the production of cortisol hormones, which trigger inflammation.
Acne symptoms include:
- Blackheads: Small white or black specks on the surface of the skin.
- Papule: A small, red, inflamed bump.
- Pustule: A bump filled with pus that is red with a white tip. - Nodule: A large, hard lump beneath the skin.
- Cyst: A large, deep lump filled with pus. How to Treat Acne at Home:
- Cleansing acne-prone skin: You can use a gentle facial cleanser at least twice a day.
- Using a lightweight moisturiser: Choose a moisturiser that does not contain oil.
- Using products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid: These ingredients help kill the bacteria that cause acne.
Avoid squeezing pimples: Doing so can cause infections and leave acne scars. Medical Treatment: - Topical medication: A dermatologist may prescribe a stronger topical medication to treat severe acne.
- Oral medication: For very severe acne, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics or hormonal medication. - Medical procedures: Actions such as comedone extraction, chemical peeling, or laser treatment can help address acne. Acne Prevention
- Maintain facial cleanliness: Wash your face regularly, especially after activities.
- Use the right skincare products: Choose non-comedogenic products (do not clog pores). - Protect the skin from sunlight: Excessive sun exposure can worsen acne.
- Control stress: Engaging in activities or practices that can help reduce stress, such as yoga or meditation.
- Consume healthy foods: Increase your consumption of fruits, vegetables, and protein.
If your acne is very severe or does not improve with home treatment, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist at Hermina Hospital and address your acne problem with the right treatment.
