Beware of the Monkey Pox Virus, Recognize the Symptoms!

Hello Hermina friends, Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus. Originally, this disease was a zoonotic disease, meaning it was transmitted from animals to humans. This disease can also spread from human to human.

Friends of Hermina, you need to know that people who are at risk of contracting the monkey pox virus are people who live with or have a history of close contact (including sexual contact) with someone who is infected with monkeypox, or who have regular contact with animals that can be infected. Newborns, children, and immunocompromised people are at risk of experiencing more serious symptoms and death from monkeypox.

What are the symptoms of monkeypox?

Hermina's friend, it turns out that Monkeypox can cause various signs and symptoms. While some people have mild symptoms, others may experience more severe symptoms and require treatment. And it should be noted that those at higher risk for more severe disease or complications include people who are pregnant, children and people with immune diseases.

Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, severe headache, muscle aches, back pain, weakness, swollen lymph nodes (in the neck, armpits or groin) and rashes or skin lesions. The rash usually starts within one to three days of the fever. This rash or lesion on the skin develops starting from red spots like smallpox, blisters filled with clear fluid, blisters filled with pus, then hardens or scabs and then falls off. The number of lesions in one person can range from just a few to thousands. The rash tends to concentrate on the face, palms and soles of the feet. The rash can also be found on the mouth, genitals, and eyes. Monkeypox rashes are sometimes confused with syphilis or herpes.

What do I need to do if I have symptoms of monkeypox or I think I contracted monkeypox from someone who has monkeypox?

If Friends of Hermina have had close contact with someone who has monkeypox or an environment that may have been contaminated with the virus, monitor yourself carefully for signs and symptoms for 21 days since you were last exposed. Limit close contact with other people as much as you can.

If you experience these symptoms, you can consult Hermina Bitung Hospital with a specialist in internal medicine, Dr. Lingga Ramot Gumelar, SpPD
