Medical Acupuncture in the World of Health
The Role of Medical Acupuncture in the World of Health
Acupuncture comes from the Latin words: Acus (needle) and punctura (puncture) It is a therapy of inserting fine needles into the surface of the body namely acupuncture points, with the aim of influencing the body's physiological functions and treating disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended acupuncture as part of health efforts.
What is the difference between acupuncture points and points on other bodies?
Acupuncture points contain many nerve endings, mast cells, lymphatic channels and capillaries, and have lower electrical resistance than the surrounding tissue which will then release certain neurotransmitters which are useful in the healing process of disease.
How does Acupuncture work?
Stimulation of acupuncture points will increase the concentration of various neurotransmitters in plasma and brain tissue such as β-endomorphin, enkephalin, 5-HT (serotonin), and dopamine. As is known, some of these neurotransmitters function to reduce pain and are calming, not only function to stretch stiff muscles so that we can relax but also calm our organ systems and psychology.
What diseases can be helped with medical acupuncture?
Asthma, speech development disorders, insomnia, hypertension, DM, stimulating breast milk, menstruation, infertility, sinusitis, stomach ulcers, ringing in the ears, drug dependence, anxiety, depression, obesity, and many more.
