The Rainy Season Comes, Beware of Dengue Fever

The Rainy Season Comes, Beware of Dengue Fever

Hello Hermina friends, Indonesia is currently still an endemic area for a disease caused by the dengue virus, which has spread throughout the country. Dengue fever is transmitted to humans by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes and can attack people of all ages and be fatal if not handled properly.

Some areas have experienced frequent rainfall and flooding in recent weeks. Care must always be taken to maintain environmental health because dengue often attacks the community.

Symptoms of DHF

  • Common symptoms are:
  • Sudden high fever
  • Headaches
  • Rash
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • In severe cases, massive bleeding and shock occur, which are life-threatening. Typically, DHF patients also experience a febrile phase that lasts 2–7 days.

Fever Phase

  • First phase (days 1-3): High fever up to 40°C
  • Second phase (Days 4-5): This is the critical stage; the patient has a fever of up to 37°C and, at this stage, feels that he can return to his activities (feeling recovered). If he does not get the right treatment, it can be fatal; the number of platelets is greatly reduced due to the rupture of blood vessels (bleeding).
  • Third phase (days 6-7): The patient returns to feeling feverish; this phase is called the recovery phase. In this phase, the blood platelets slowly return to normal.

Tips for early help for DHF sufferers, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Health

If a family member or loved one experiences symptoms of DHF, here are some things you can do as first aid.

  1. Bed rest
  2. Drink plenty of water, at least 2 liters a day.
  3. Hot pack
  4. Give antipyretics for high fever.
  5. If symptoms worsen within 2–3 days, such as weakness, vomiting, nosebleeds, gum disease, etc., please take them to the nearest hospital or health center for further treatment. Patients should immediately seek medical help if the symptoms from the initial cycle of DHF do not improve so that they can be treated quickly and appropriately.

Considering that there is no medicine to kill the dengue virus, a vaccine to prevent dengue is now available, and Hermina Samarinda Hospital is serving dengue vaccines to Friends of Hermina. However, the best thing not to miss is eradicating mosquito nests (PSN) from our environment with 3M Plus. Healthy Greetings
