Increase our awareness of dengue hemorrhagic fever!
Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Common symptoms of dengue fever are high fever and flu-like symptoms, while in severe cases of dengue fever, this condition can cause heavy bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure, and even cause death.
Initial Symptoms
- High fever reaches 40 degrees Celsius
- Severe headache
- Rash on the skin
- Nausea and vomiting
Dengue Fever Phase
- High Fever Phase 40 Degrees Celsius:
Days 1-3 High Fever Phase
- Sudden high fever accompanied by various symptoms that appear
- Critical Phase 40 Degrees Celsius:
Day 4-5 Critical Phase
- The fever dropped drastically as if healing had occurred
- Possible occurrence of "Dengue Shock Syndrome"
- Healing Phase:
Day 6-7 Healing Phase
- The fever returned to high levels as a reaction to recovery
Be alert if the fever does not go down within 2-3 days accompanied by red spots (if pressed the red spots do not disappear). Recognize the symptoms of dengue fever and don't delay going to the hospital or health center because it is often the cause of death.
Treatment
- Take fever-reducing medication
Paracetamol is a pain reliever that can relieve pain and reduce fever. Avoid pain relievers that can increase bleeding complications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium.
- Enough rest
By resting, the patient will recover more quickly. Rest can help restore body tissue damaged by this condition.
- Drink lots of fluids
Hospital treatment using an infusion will help meet the fluid needs of dengue fever patients. However, dengue fever patients do not always have to be hospitalized. As long as you follow the guidelines, you can treat dengue fever patients at home. Doctors will advise patients who are hospitalized or outpatient at home to consume lots of fluids. Not only mineral water or infusion, fluids can include soupy food, fruit or juice which aims to reduce fever and prevent the body from becoming dehydrated.
Prevention
- 3M Plus: Drains, covers, and recycles water reservoirs.
- Vaccination: The dengue vaccine can reduce the risk of dengue virus infection and reduce the death rate. Before undergoing the vaccine, you need to consult a doctor first.
- Use lotion or insect repellent.
- Maintain a clean environment together.
- Cultivate fish that eat mosquito larvae, such as guppies.
- Use a mosquito net when sleeping.
When should you see a doctor?
If you have taken precautions, but dengue fever still attacks and interferes with your daily activities, immediately visit a doctor at the hospital to get checked.
