Cataracts are the occurrence of cloudiness in the lens of the eye, as we know there is a lens in the eye, and the lens has several functions including: transmitting light, the lens plays an important role in accommodation and deflection of light. If the lens becomes cloudy, then the patient will experience visual disturbances. Disorders caused by cataracts are very typical, namely blurry vision like seeing smoke or fog. Usually patients complain if they are exposed to bright lights, there is a change in color perception, and there is a very progressive change in the size of the glasses.
Actually, everyone can get cataracts, from children to old age. However, there are some people who are very at risk of developing cataracts, namely people who are elderly or aging who are more than or above 40-50 years old and above, patients who have a history of systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, patients who use certain class of drugs such as steroids. , a history of frequent bumps in the facial area, for example a construction worker who gets a stone reflected in the eye, a chronic infection in the eye is usually avetis. There are types of cataracts, depending on the cause, location, and stage/maturity of the cataract. Based on the cause, if cataracts are caused by aging or old age, they are called senile cataracts. If cataracts are caused by trauma or impact, they are called traumatic cataracts. If cataracts are caused by drug use or or if there is a history of eye disease, they are called complicated cataracts.

 

Based on the location of the first type of cataract, if the type of turbidity is at the core, it is called a nuclear cataract. If the type of turbidity is behind, it is called a posterior subcapsular cataract. If the type of turbidity is on the edge, it is called a partical cataract. Based on the stage/maturity of the cataract, if the cloudiness of the lens is still small or mild, it is usually called an immature cataract. If the cloudiness of the lens is all over, it is called a mature cataract. If the maturity level is analogous to ripe fruit and stored until it rots, that is the level of hypermature cataract maturity. So, this hypermature can invite other eye diseases, for example increased eye pressure, can cause glaucoma or inflammation inside the eyeball, eye infections that can be chronic. How to prevent the occurrence of cataracts in the eye, namely using glasses if you are outside the room because ultra violet light can cause cloudiness in the eye itself. Then put a hat on people who like gardening. Patients with diabetes mellitus are usually given education or control of their own blood sugar, so as not to accelerate cloudiness in the lens. If it is due to a collision or trauma, for example construction workers are usually educated to wear a helmet, so that when doing stone work it does not hit the eye directly.
